Day 22

Hello bloggy. Today was awesome; you shall read my today’s blog entry to know about it!

Today’s weather is extremely cooling, awesome to start my day like this! The back gate was as usual, closed, and the canteen crew is on national day holidays. My morning began with a stomach ache during the PM lesson. Lunch was settled via delivery from the vegetarian restaurant.

Afternoon lesson is revision for the practical test which is held on the coming Friday morning. It is really tough to digest the information all at one go. Nevertheless, Mr Richard Chia took his time to teach us everything in detail, until everyone is clear of what to be done, and what to be not.

The highlight of the day began only after the afternoon lesson! Jamie and I went out to look out for random attractions. Took bus 549 and passed by a open space with a lot food stalls open for business. We alighted quickly to go back the place.

On the way, we see road side stall selling wigs. It’s a guy trying to demonstrate the styling of wigs for women, which is rather odd for a guy to be selling such things, even so, it is an eye opener.

Saw a parking meter, which is very similar to the US’s. Amazingly, the parking meter is not coin-operated, but is card operated. We concluded that the card must be something similar to our Ez-link.

Finally reach the place. It is call the SOHO Expo, which is very similar to Singapore’s Expo. The event was food festival, 美食节.

This is the first sight we saw upon walking into the food fair. The deer is all dried up and hung there for their advertisement of deer meat. And continue walking, we see dog meat, roasted pigeons, brewed ostrich meat, etc. Oh man, it is really an eye opener; the locals are so daring to taste every living thing’s meat.
Jamie and I tried the 冰糖葫芦 and 波萝饭!

冰糖葫芦tastes like I am eating solid sugar, very sweet but very tasty. And the 波萝饭 tastes very disgusting, I think because the main ingredient is jack fruit, that’s why the taste is so unfamiliar.

Finally, as we walked almost to the end of the stretch of stalls, we saw some familiar things. There are actually satay vendors over here! The chefs are quite stylish because the stall is blasting upbeat music, with the chefs dancing while handling the satay. Another outlet is selling coconut! Their coconut here is much more expensive than in Singapore (a dollar more), but the coconut juice is making itself worthy of the price!

We ate the little snacks from all over the place and went off. Then we saw this distinct souvenir store selling horns of ox. Is this legal here?

Satisfied, we went back to dormitory at around 10pm.

Personal Reflection/Feelings:

The food sold in food fair is kind of unacceptable to me. I am speaking of the food like camel meat, dog meat, pigeon meat, etc. Moreover, I am a dog lover, which dog lover can stand dog meat?

Well, the event is very much similar to the one in Singapore, other than the varieties of the meat. The next event is said to be concert of their local singers (a mixture). We would not have the chance to stay that long for the event date, totally a pity!
